McCain Food’s facility in Burley, Idaho is a large-scale food processing plant, employing approximately 700 employees. This site specializes in the production frozen potato products.
Position Summary:Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, as a member of the Environmental Team, assists in the operation of machinery and systems that convert wastewater in drains and sewers into a form that is safe to release into the environment. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator does this by monitoring equipment and conditions, maintaining and cleaning equipment, taking samples, and maintaining documentation and reports required by the Company and applicable regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Collects wastewater samples on a daily basis.Takes pH and dissolved oxygen readings at various areas within the wastewater treatment plant.Takes chlorine tests and flush analyzers when needed.Ability to use a sludge judge for reading clarifier depths.Checks aeration blowers for proper operation and oil levels and maintains them at recommended levels.Ability to operate and maintain pumps and motors that move water and wastewater through filtration systems.Ability to check different types of pumps for oil levels and perform regular pump maintenance.Ability to trouble shoot various types of pumps to determine the root cause of the issue.Assists the Environmental Lead Operator with cleaning the fine bubble diffusion system.Works collaboratively with Environmental Team to ensure all wastewater testing and maintenance records are complete and up-to-date.Assists the Wastewater Treatment Lab Technician with some process lab analysis.Participates as needed in other environmental department work assignments, including process control, lab, sanitation, painting, and keeping buildings clean.Monitors Biogas buildings and the Covered Anaerobic Lagoon (CAL) sludge for depth, pH ranges, and gas production within the system.Monitors the chemical usage for phosphorus removal, chlorine dosage, and sodium bisulfite for dechlorination to assure that our permit is not violated and to assure that costs are kept to a minimum.Understands and participate with emergency response protocols.Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses when required.Ability to work efficiently with little or no supervision.Communicates any problems or changes in working environment to appropriate personnel.Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.Keeps work area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and according to the principles of 5S.Performs assigned tasks in a manner that does not endanger the environment and adheres to company and regulatory standards.Promotes and adheres to company safety regulations.Active involvement in Behavioral Observation Safety (BOS).Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.Helps to build and promote a positive “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the factory, and the company.Actively participates in the continuous improvement process, such as MCE events.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.Preference given to candidates with associates degree or technical certificate in a related field.Ability to comprehend and communicate in Basic English and interact with all levels of the organization. Must be able to enter data into a computer.Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and the employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Physical Demand:Constant: use and movement of hands and standing on regularly scheduled shift.
Frequently: Bending, walking, grasping of hands, and reaching for up to 3 -6 hours daily.
Occsionally: Bending at the waist, squatting, kneeling, and twisting at the neck and waist, pushing and pulling for up to 3 hours a day.
