The primary purpose of this position is to accomplish the operation, overhaul, and maintenance of the five Wastewater Treatment Plants and to ensure compliance with Georgia Environmental Protection Department. Responsibilities Performs Wastewater plant operations. Performs chemical analysis and interprets analysis results from associated points in Wastewater facilities and ensures proper treatment of all Wastewater to determine proper chemical application and equipment calibration. Performs plant maintenance. Install and maintains all distribution and chemical feed lines within the plant operation to include valve replacement. Maintains supply levels/Training. Maintains security, safety, and health habits. Quality Support. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs and requirements of both internal and external customers and continuous improvement in systems and processes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5400 Industrial Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprinting reading) Dexterity and Safety Operation of Equipment Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of wastewater treatment. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment common to the trade. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Ability to plan and organize work assigned to include determining resources required to accomplish the mission. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Selective Placement Factor: You must possess a current State of Georgia Certificate for Wastewater Treatment. Failure to meet this factor will result in an ineligible rating. (Failure to submit a copy of your certification with your application package will result in an ineligible rating.) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Efforts: Considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, opening and closing heavy valves, working in strained positions, continuous use of arms and legs, moderate to heavy lifting, climbing ladders and tanks may be required to operate vehicles up to 5 tons. Must be able to lift items not to exceed 24 lbs if more consider using assistance or mechanical devices. Working Conditions: The operator must have full use of his hands, feet, eyes, and as the operator is exposed to inclement weather, heights, hazardous chemicals and materials, heavy lifting d possible exposure to limited radiation. Incumbent will work variable 8-hour shifts and is subject to 24-hours call back. The operator will occasionally work in confined spaces (class A, B, C) which require him to be properly fitted and wear all safety equipment for entry.
