Job Title: Water Asset Technician

Job Description

As a Water Asset Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage. You will use acoustic sensors to detect leaks and notify the project manager of potential issues. This role involves significant travel to job sites, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and using phone apps for mapping.

ResponsibilitiesInspect water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage.Use acoustic sensors to listen for leaks and report possible leaks to the project manager.Travel from the project manager's location to job sites or meet at job sites.Map out locations using phone apps and work outdoors in various weather conditions.Conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection and deployment of acoustic noise loggers.Establish and identify water networks and assets.Plan and implement step tests and recover flow and pressure data.Complete job forms, time sheets, and all other required documentation.Ensure safe working methods and participate in weekly safety meetings.Read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information.Facilitate all leak detection work requirements, advising on night work as needed.Use initiative to find solutions in the field for the benefit of the customer and the Water Asset Management division.Attend or conduct site meetings with clients as needed.Maintain and upkeep all equipment related to specific projects and produce a stock check on a quarterly basis.Essential SkillsExperience in GIS, survey, blueprint reading, water systems, and water utilities.Proficiency in leak detection, meter reading software, troubleshooting, safety procedures, documentation, mapping software, and acoustic leak detection.Ability to read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information.Experience working outside on a regular basis, preferably in extreme conditions.Capability to walk up to 10 miles per day with frequent bending and lift up to 20 lbs.Strong communication and customer service skills.Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal instruction.Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle Ability to pass a drug screen.Additional Skills & QualificationsDegree in Environmental Science, GIS, Biology, Geology, or related field preferred.High school diploma or GED required.Experience with Water Distribution Systems and/or Acoustic Leak Detection desirable but not required.Ability to work a flexible schedule, including travel and extended work hours.Safety-conscious mindset.Work Environment

This position is based in Illinois, with the closest office located in Minneapolis. The candidate will work from home when not on the job site, reporting to the job site every day. Work hours can be 5 eight-hour days or 4 ten-hour days, with a minimum of 40 hours per week. The role involves significant travel, potentially being away for up to two weeks at a time, and will include travel to various states like Florida, Michigan, and Texas. The company will provide a vehicle, phone, and company card for hotel and food expenses. For the first year, the position will be travel-heavy while establishing the Illinois clientele. The dress code includes high boots, pants, and t-shirts, with PPE such as safety vests, sun protection, and bug spray provided. Water will be available on trucks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00
