Incumbents in this position supervise the daily operations of a crew installing, repairing and maintaining water valves, mains, hydrants and fittings and ensure the safety of the cr and equipment. Examples of duties include: estimating time and material needed for completing projects, reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches pertaining to water systems and general construction and preparing written reports of work completed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: â Plans, organizes, assigns and directs the work activities of subordinate staff to reali the unit’s work goals and to ensure the consistent application of unit and/or technical policies, procedures and guidelines. â Confers with and counsels subordinate staff to exchange information and/or expla work policies, procedures and guidelines; and identify work-related problems, problem characteristics, impact and formulate possible solutions. â Reviews and compares work performance and/or products of subordinate staff wi established standards to determine employee production levels, training needs and to determine for recommendation to agency management appropriate personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, status changes, separations and grievance dispositions. â Trains subordinate staff in the work principles, policies and or procedures to mainta and/or improve the production levels of employees in accordance with established work performance standards. Government Departments and Agencies Personnel City Jobs â Supervises field crew installing, maintaining, and repairing fire hydrants, mains valves. â Maintains a safe work environment by enforcing safety rules and regulations. â Estimates time and materials needed to complete work; records work hours and materials utilized by crew. â Reads and interprets plans and blueprints; prepares sketches and field note â Performs and supervises work with tools and equipment such as a drill press, boring machine, caliper, and degree gauges; uses instruments to locate leaks, valves and related devices. â Confers with the supervisor regularly to receive instructions and report on project status. â Responds to inquiries and concerns from customers and city workers in other departments. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: â Data Utilization: Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationship â Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide first line supervision. Abili to persuade, convince, and train others. Tasks involve the ability to exert regular and sustained heavy physical effort with an emphasis on climbing and balancing which al involves stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling in order to perform maintenance or installation duties. â Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of sounds and odo associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks, such as detecting hazardous materials. Other Requirements: â Positions require shift, weekend and holiday assignments, mandatory overtime and 24-hour emergency call. Qualificatio Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains, valves and fittings, fire hydrants, sewer and chemical lines, cleaning/maintenance of water sett basins and grounds maintenance activities.
