Under general supervision, is responsible for examining and analyzing samples of industrial waste, reclaimed water, stormwater, sludge, and other reclaimed water residuals for compliance with governmental regulations; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Performs gravimetric, volumetric, electrometric, biochemical, physical, instrumental, and biological analyses of samples; Operates Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometry (ICP/-MS), Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (CVAFS), AA Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) and other advanced equipment to analyze samples; Collects samples for laboratory analyses at various locations; Prepares chemicals, reagents, and standards for laboratory and plant use; Recommends changes in laboratory procedures to accommodate new instruments and current regulatory requirements, such as EPA regulations; Recommends items requiring further investigation or analysis to supervisor; Prepares reports on findings, performing statistical analyses on data; Enters analytical data into a computer; Performs periodic maintenance and calibration on operational, analytical, and colorimetric equipment; Participates in quality assurance initiatives, to include performing audits, planning and implementing procedure improvements, and reporting results; Identifies and documents microbiological populations in river water, reclaimed water, and compost; Performs glassware preparation such as sterilization and desiccation; May inventory chemicals and initiate purchase orders; May conduct tours of facility or speak before the public; May oversee the work of one or more laboratory assistants. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor’s degree with significant coursework (thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours) in chemistry, biology, or a related laboratory science. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
