Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists within Stantec’s Community Development Team for a Water Resources Engineering Graduate.  The position will be based out of the Waterloo, London, or Hamilton office, but may require travel to other regional Stantec offices.  

Your Key Responsibilities Undertake modeling and design tasks associated with Surface Water works in support of a wide variety of projects in both the private and public sectors.  Assignments could include stormwater management and Low Impact Development designs for development projects, Subwatershed Plans, floodplain delineation/management analyses, drainage assessments for transportation projects, renewable energy projects, erosion control studies, etc.; Perform calculations to analyze and design water resources system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software (e.g., SWMHYMO, PC-SWMM, MIDUSS, GAWSER, HEC-RAS, etc.).; Coordinate with engineers, technical staff and/or team members in various disciplines to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner; Prepare technical reports and design briefs to document analyses including taking responsibility for the quality of written, technical and graphic work. Review designs and reporting for compliance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations; Help guide projects through to completion, from due diligence/feasibility work, preliminary/ conceptual design, through to detailed design, scheduling, tendering, construction, and certification; With the support of senior staff, liaise with clients, agencies and others to determine project requirements and obtain approvals; Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer. Field assignments may include the monitoring of surface water systems and features, water quality sampling, drainage system or bathymetric surveys, etc.; and Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff. Your Capabilities and Credentials Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water resources, environmental and/or civil engineering design. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, to engage in creative and critical thought and to effectively communicate ideas to others. Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, standards, and other similar material. Hands on experience with stormwater management modelling, such as Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM, SWMHYMO, GAWSER, or other models considered an asset. Requires proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Ability to carry out field work within the Waterloo Region on limited notice Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering. Previous co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
