Job Location Primary Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the task necessary to maintain and ensure reliable operation of water treatment facilities, tank sites, and booster stations. Including working water quality testing, pump operations, Ability to follow and understand IEPA Water Quality regulations any other duties as assigned by management.

 

This position is a union position with Illinois American Water and the starting pay rate is $30.52 per hour

Key Accountabilities

Duties will include those necessary to maintain and ensure reliable operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations.

Calibrate chemical feed systems Operating via SCADA/Ignition Receiving chemical deliveries Water quality regulatory sampling and lab testing Utilizing company technology as required Regulating flow of the water treatment plant, maintaining required pressure, ensuring IEPA requirements are meet. Successful candidate will be given tasks that require mechanical and Production facilities knowledge, electrical knowledge is a plus.   In addition to operations of heavy equipment including a forklift and any other duties as assigned by management. Knowledge/Skills Strong work ethic, time management, communication, and organizational and team membership skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Good mechanical skills. Position requires the ability to lift 75lbs. Computer literacy required. Experience/Education High school diploma or equivalent required. 0-2 years minimum in water and wastewater industry.

 

Work Hours

This position will require rotating shift work to provide coverage at the treatment facilities as required and assigned including observed holidays and weekends.

The Operations Technician will be included in and required to perform Call Out duties as described in the current AFSCME 1479 contract. Emergencies and extenuating circumstances may require temporary schedule changes.

Certification

are as outlined in the August 24,2023 AFSCME 1479 agreement.

Class C water operator’s license required after 2 years in position; Class A water operator’s license required after 4 years in position if a license is not already held.
