HDR has an exciting opportunity for a proven leader and technically exceptional individual in the field of water and wastewater to join our already strong Water Business Group as a Water / Wastewater Project Manager.

Primary duties of this position will include:

As a Water / Wastewater Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for scoping, planning, managing, directing and monitoring all aspects of drinking water and wastewater projects and contracts with high degrees of technical complexity. More specifically the Project Manager will be expected to effectively interface with clients while independently leading and supervising teams of engineers and CAD professionals to create detailed master plans, detailed designs including plans and specifications, and cost estimates. These responsibilities will include:

Develop and executes scope, schedule and fees for planning and design projects Developing and executing QA/QC and risk management plans for each projectDeveloping project design criteria, schematics and methodsPerforming or overseeing modeling and hydraulic calculation efforts related to gravity and pressure piping systemsPreparing preliminary design, basis of design reports, routing and alignment studies, and other engineering reportsDeveloping and writing engineering specifications and front-end documentsOverseeing the production of design drawingsWorking directly with the owner to ensure that the project exceeds the owner’s expectationsPrepare proposals partnering with technical leadership and marketing.

As needed for more complex project elements, the Project Manager may be needed to perform or guide the detailed design work themselves and as such, the candidate should have an exceptional demonstrated technical background.

Beyond technical delivery, the Project Manager will be expected to collaborate with leadership, other project managers, and technical staff across Canada and the United States to maintain HDR’s commitment to excellent technical delivery for our clients. Specific activities related to the overall technical delivery program could include development of a technical mentorship and development program, reviewing existing detailed design standards, direct mentoring of staff, engagement in the group’s quality control and compliance program, lead abstract development and review activities for local conferences, and involvement in the review of scopes of work and associated fees.

Lastly, the Project Manager is expected to actively engage in client management activities (e.g. internal client management calls, client meetings) and participate in the overall strategy discussions for successfully marketing with our clients.

Preferred Qualifications8-10 years related experience in the water / wastewater industryProven and significant process mechanical detailed design experience, including with technologies and equipment, to lead efforts associated with the group’s technical delivery programProven leadership and commitment to the technical development and mentorship of staffExperience developing detailed scopes and fees for a wide variety of planning and design projectsExcellent communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skillsCondition assessment and rehabilitation experience of pressure and gravity pipelinesExisting relationships with clients in the Greater Toronto AreaRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering 7 years related experienceA minimum 2 years project management experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseMS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus) Demonstrated leadership skillsAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
