Job DescriptionIf you love weather forecasting, climate and science reporting and you have the desire to work in a high-performing newsroom, then Telemundo 48 (KSTS)/NBC Bay Area is looking for you. The successful candidate will produce and create graphics that are clear and easy to follow; tell the viewers a weather story in newscasts and digital, and ensure viewers get the information they need for the day. These weather forecasts should be designed for a multiplatform presentation. We are looking for someone who knows their stuff – and can present weather information on broadcast and on digital in a manner that is clear, accurate, engaging, and meaningful to Bay Area and Northern California viewers in Spanish.
Essential Responsibilities:
Prepare weather forecasts and traffic reports based on material assembled from various sources, using all the technology available.Present weather and traffic information for all platforms in a timely manner with emphasis on weather events, alerts, advisories, and warnings relevant to the Bay Area market.Continually demonstrate a passion for communicating accurate weather and traffic information through graphics, verbally, and in writing.Research and check out weather stories either in person or by phone.Monitor WSI and the National Weather Service to ascertain any weather developments.Assist in coordinating weather and traffic programming on multiple platforms.Maintain a deep level of familiarity with the Bay Area and Northern California TV market and the people who live here.Potentially report on stories related to weather, the environment, earthquakes, and climate change.Write scripts, lead-ins, cues, bridges, copy, and other material for use on the air.Record and deliver promotional announcements when assigned and make promotional appearances as requiredMMJ duties may apply during work weekResearch, shoot, write, and edit stories related to weather, the environment, earthquakes, and science.Strong live reporting skills in the field. Respond to breaking weather news as required.Strong verbal skills with the ability to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news.Be extremely active and engaging on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok etc.)Good collaborative and interpersonal skills to communicate at all levelsWorks well in a team environmentStrong knowledge of Doppler radar QualificationsBasic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent work experienceMinimum 2 years of experience as a broadcast TV Meteorologist, weather anchor or news reporter.AMS, or NWA seal of approval or the ability to begin process of certification.Must have working knowledge of computer graphics systems such as: WSI, Weather Central, and Accuweather.Proven experience using forecasting tools including Doppler Radar and Satellite Maps.Excellent news writing ability for all platforms, as well as proficiency in newsgathering equipment and computers essentialProficiency in weather analysis and forecastingBilingual: Spanish and English; both written and verbalProven ability to ad-lib effortlessly on-air while under pressure during weather-breaking news and newscasts.Must be willing and able to work extended hours, and varying shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).Report to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage when required.Eligibility Requirements

Salary range: $70,000 - $105,000
