Posting Details Posting Details Title Web Manager and Communication Specialist Posting Number S01378JP Department Library Job Summary Overseeing the library’s web architecture and the integration of web services, this position will develop and implement a sophisticated, multifaceted digital and analog communication and user engagement strategy. In collaboration with various stakeholders, the Web Manager is responsible for creating innovative outreach initiatives across multiple platforms. This includes managing the library’s extensive web presence, overseeing its social media accounts, and designing various outreach and communication materials. The position showcases the library’s value in supporting research, teaching, and learning, while fostering active engagement with faculty, staff, students, alumni through compelling content creation, media relations, and strategic outreach efforts.
Essential Functions:
Serve as Library Webmaster – Oversee, manage, develop library’s web architecture and integrate web services, Lead the development and maintenance of user-friendly, accessible digital interfaces; create, update, and organize website content to ensure information remains current, relevant, and easy to navigate.
Manage the library’s social media presence – Develop and execute an engaging social media strategy aligned with the library’s mission and goals; create and curate compelling content across various social media platforms to showcase library resources, services, and programs in coordination with library departments.
Develop and coordinate the library’s outreach activities – Develop compelling and accessible outreach materials in multiple formats that effectively communicate library resources, services, and programs; Coordinate the production and distribution of outreach materials.
Promote the Library’s user engagement initiatives – Working with stakeholders, develop and implement creative strategies to strengthen the relationship between the library and its user community; Establish and maintain regular communication channels to collect user feedback and suggestions; Analyze user feedback and behavior patterns to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improving services.
Education/Skills Requirements Required: Bachelor’s degree in communications, computer science, graphic design, website design or related field. Knowledge of current national trends in web organization and design, web usability standards, and testing methods. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills. Strong relationship-building abilities with diverse stakeholder groups. Ability to develop and implement communications strategies. Experience in gathering and analyzing user feedback and usage data. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to set priorities and manage time and multiple projects with competing deadlines. Ability to troubleshoot back-end website issues and experience with a robust suite of website diagnostic and enhancement tools, such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console, and Programmable Search Engine preferred. Understanding of current trends in academic libraries. Strong customer service orientation combined with a creative and innovative mindset.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in communications, computer science, graphic design, website design or related field, or in library science. Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents Required:
1-3 years experience in a similar role.
Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including image and video editing and graphic design programs. Familiarity with web content management systems, web accessibility principles, standards, and guidelines, and general network security issues and practices. Experience administering social media accounts and a broad understanding of effective social media communication strategies.
Preferred: Proficiency with Bootstrap web framework, and programming languages such as XML, XSLT, SQL, Perl, and/or PHP. Standard Work Days and Hours This is an exempt level position that requires the time commitment to complete the essential duties of the position. Work to be performed generally between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Mon-Fri. with rare need to work evenings or weekends. It is scheduled as .7 FTE or 28 hours per week, year round.
This is an on-site role, and candidates must be able to work in person on Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick, Maine.
COMPENSATION The salary range for this position is expected to be: $45,500 – $48,500.
