Communications UnitWEBMASTER
PURPOSE:

The Health Systems Trust is hiring a Webmaster who will support the digital infrastructure and internet footprint of the organisation through web development processes. They will work within Communications and with ICT to ensure data accuracy and the functionality of websites, pages, and other online platforms including its IntraLink. In the Webmaster role, you will handle all website needs, such as troubleshooting technical errors, maintaining relevant content, optimising load speeds, and deploying visually appealing web designs. Success in this role will be demonstrated by leading the development and implementation of strategic website structures and improvements to enhance internet traffic and customer engagement. This position is based at the Gauteng, Midrand office.

 

This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable based on continuation of funding.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build functional and easy-to-use websitesManage website updates and integration with databases and serversUtilise SEO tools and implement organic search best practicesEnsures compliance with privacy lawsAdminister website security and data protection where relevantConduct web traffic analyses and evaluate website performanceTest websites across browsers, operating systems and devicesMonitor online traffic and conversionsEnsure functionality and efficiency of sites and web serversMaintain, configure and troubleshoot serversEnsure site security by setting up firewalls and login pagesOptimise loading speeds and capacityDebug pages and fix broken links or imagesAddress user queries and complaintsUse Javascript and other scripting languages
Configure Apache and other web serversServer administrator duties and responsibilitiesManage and track user access rights on websiteManage configuration of servers hosting the applicationsUser experience testingContribute to communication visibility plans relevant to the channels the Webmaster contributes toCo-ordinate procurement and payment processes for website communications activities in liaison with the finance team, including:Sourcing and consulting with new service providers
Facilitating liaison between service providers and internal clients
Contribute to organisational governance processes including planning, budgeting, monitoring and reportingPromote internal uptake and use of the SharePoint Intranet under the guidance of the Communications Manager and in consultation with ICT and the SharePoint SpecialistContribute to knowledge management including and supporting the management of the Communications Unit site on the SharePoint Intranet ensuring content is regularly updated, and properly storedParticipate in performance management system including objectives setting, periodic appraisals and personal development planningSupport delivery of communications capacity-building activities including workshops and webinarsFiling of communications resources and materials ensuring ease of access when requiredPerform other ad hoc tasks as delegated by management.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fieldMinimum five years of proven experience as a Webmaster or Web DeveloperFluency in Sharepoint and WordpressFluency in PHP, SQL, Javascript, HTML, XML, and other programming languages is preferredProficient in SEO tools, google analytics, and related softwareProficient in Webmaster tools such as Google analytics
Deep knowledge in metadata, robots.txt, and speed optimisationStrong troubleshooting and analytical abilitiesExcellent communication and teamwork skillsAbility to generate creative ideasAttention to detail and outstanding organisational skillsEnglish language proficiency, both verbal and written, is essential.

 

Experience and competencies

Five years of experience with Software programming and graphics knowledgeExpert knowledge of Sharepoint Designer and WordpressFamiliar with HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript Productive under pressure, great in dealing with stressful situationsCreativity and imaginationAdaptable and eager to learn new things Knowledge of international web protocols and standardsSense of ownership and pride in their performance and its impact on company's successCritical thinker and problem-solving skillsGood time-management skillsExperience in promoting websitesResponsibilities include enhancing user experience by creating user-friendly, visually appealing, and secure sitesAttention to detail and effective communication are essential, as they balance creativity and analytical thinkingA strong technical background is highly valued. Their ultimate goal is to guarantee the seamless functionality and efficiency of the web infrastructureA valid driver's licenceExperience of working in a public health setting in government or and NGO will be an advantage.A Team player

 

REMUNERATION

The salary package for this position is based on HST's Job Grading system, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
