Job Summary/Description:
Alaska's News Source seeks a skilled Weekend Anchor/Executive Producer who has a proven record of on-camera broadcast experience and visual news reporting delivering community-centered stories. The ideal candidate has exceptional communication skills. This is a high-profile position in our statewide community and our newsroom which demands leadership and initiative. You will write and approve broadcast and digital scripts daily, as well as producing newscasts when needed. Field reporting several days a week is also required. The Weekend Anchor/EP shift is 1:30p-10:30p (with one hour break) on Sat/Sun as well as M-W as a Reporter or fill-in anchor, as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
* Anchor Weekend evening newscasts (and fill in on other newscasts, as needed)
* Work closely with newscast producer and serve as the Weekend Executive Producer to ensure story selection and quality of broadcasts are clear, compelling, and consistent
* Demonstrate ability to connect with viewers and community on and off the anchor desk
* Generate story/segment ideas daily and lead Friday planning meetings for Weekend Coverage
* Report in the field 3 days a week - both LIVE and taped coverage - as well as serve as multimedia journalist (pitch/shoot/write/report/edit solo)
* Contribute content to digital/streaming platforms, as assigned
* Build local contacts and relationships
* Participate in station visits and promotional initiatives
* Excellent news judgment
* Must be able to communicate to the audience with ease during breaking news - while making sound, split-second decisions during live broadcasts
* Must be a proven newsroom leader, driving content and coverage decisions during evening hours on broadcast and digital
* Serve as a mentor for producers and reporters
* Fill-in as a Producer, as needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Minimum of 2+ years experience as a broadcast Reporter and/or Anchor
* Experience producing newscasts for a commercial broadcast station
* Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or related field (or equivalent)
* Commitment to excellence and ability to excel on an award-winning news team
* Clear understanding of and adherance to journalistic ethics
