Weight Control Specialist
**Job Overview:** The Weight Control Specialist is responsible for interpreting internal and external business challenges in the structural discipline. The role requires specialized depth and breadth of expertise in the area of structural engineering. **Key Tasks and Responsibilities:** + Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed weight analyses and estimates as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards. + Apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and nonstandard situations. + Prepare clear and accurate detailed analyses and estimates including reports and procedures for all project types and project sizes. + Manage own time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Engineer) forecast and plan resource requirements. + Clearly communicate and explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view. + Plan, organize and direct all aspects of discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule and all manpower resources - agree allocations with the Discipline Manager. + Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified. + Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action. + To collate weight and center of gravity information for components of topside structures. To assemble data into MS Access database and prepare weight and center of gravity calculations and reports for modules or decks for various conditions e.g. dry weight, operating weight, lift or transport conditions etc. + Preparation/checking of weight reports. + Assist in the development of appropriate software tools to achieve the department weight control aims. + Self-checking of calculations representing their area of responsibility. + In the absence of detailed weight information, to prepare weight and center of gravity estimates using historic project data and “metrics”. + Cooperation and liaison with members of the Project team. + To perform tasks in accordance with McDermott procedures and contractual requirements. + Assistance to the department manager in development of metrics and preparation of proposals. + Developing document procedures for weight control on oil & gas division project-during engineering and construction phase (greenfield/brownfield). + Recording and compiling the weight and center of gravity information from all disciplines to generate the weight. + Monitor the weight growth during different phases of the design and reporting the status of weight and center of gravity, including reasons for changes. + Utilizes discipline knowledge of weight management and reporting principles and procedures. + Ensure the weight management and philosophy meet project and client requirements, as well as international codes, company specifications and industry standards and regulations. + Responsible for maintaining the weight databases of live and past projects. + Closely coordinate/cooperate with Lead Engineers, Engineers and Designers across various disciplines. + Have good knowledge of project lifecycle process, have involved in EPC/EPCIC Projects such as oil and gas platforms, semi-submersible, FPSO, etc. + Ability to anticipate weight related issues and support management to initiate corrective actions accordingly. + Possess an in-house database that is capable of accurately predicting weights based on benchmark projects. + Expert on creating weight databases and reports by use of Microsoft Excel or Access. + Possess the capacity to communicate effectively with management, engineering disciplines and other project participants to provide guidance to effectively and efficiently solve problems. + Bachelor or Master Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, and should have an overall experience of more than 12 years’ experience in Structural Engineering in FPSO, floater topsides and fixed offshore structures. + Experience in providing structural engineering support for offshore fast track bids. + Experience as Lead structural engineering in FEED and detail engineering of FPSO, floater topsides and fixed offshore structures. + Trains/mentors other employees in the department. + Assists and monitors MOPEX offices on projects. + Has a good understanding of the other engineering departments. + Initiates interface with other disciplines to obtain input for discipline designs. + Has a good understanding of construction/fabrication yard and client requirements. + Has commercial insight. + Helps to maintain unifi. + Prepares bids from sketching data, using experience. + Coordinates and checks the work of senior and junior engineers. + Conducts peer reviews on request. + Provides technical assistance where required. + Supervises engineers and designers. + Provides engineering support as required. + Performs engineering checks prepared by others within discipline. + Performs design verification through single discipline check and assists with inter-discipline checks (IDC). + Prepares specifications. + Review of vendor data. + Assists in furthering the department. Reports to: Project: Lead Engineer, Project Engineering Manager, or Project Manager Functional: Supervising Department Manager Liaise with: All Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication Group, Safety Dept, Project Management Team, Document Control, Project Planner, Project Cost Controller, QC and Certification Group, Procurement Group, Subcontractors and Vendors, and Customers Supervises: Senior Engineers, Engineers and Designers **Essential Qualifications and Education:** + Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicable + Detailed knowledge of design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the theory, content, and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable + Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills + Seasoned structural knowledge. + Very good organizer, motivator and supervisor. + Able to solve problems without assistance. + Keen on improving effectiveness of the work. + HSE, TQM and cost conscious. + Fluent in English, both oral and written. + Understanding and supporting company goals and work processes. + Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to: + The reassignment to other departments/construction sites/fabrication yards. + The reassignment to other McDermott offices. + The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays. + The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible/desirable. + The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications. + The reassignment to other McDermott offices. + Familiar with commercial aspects of projects and type of contracts. \#LI-RH1 Our ingenuity fuels daily life.
