Waste Away has an immediate opening for a Welder to join our team in Elkhart, Illinois. As a welder, you will be building and repairing metal containers, compactors and more. You will operate equipment to organize and move containers in our storage yard. You will be expected to keep equipment in a safe working order.
Schedule will be Monday to Friday. This is a full-time position that comes with benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform welding and repair of trash/compactor containers, compactor repairs and metal repairs in our fleet.
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover and fix any flaws.
Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards.
Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks and work as a team.
Other job related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks such as moving mechanical parts. Which require following basic safety precautions.
Work environment may be indoors in a shop, or outdoors to repair containers in the yard. Usually, it is well-lit and ventilated. Sometimes it's necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1 years of experience welding.
Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, Plasma, MMA etc.)
Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
