Eaton’s ES GEIS BLD division is currently seeking a Welder Career Path 2nd Shift. The core hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm. The rate for this position is $23.38 per hour plus a $.50 per hour shift differential. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. What you’ll do:Position Overview:
The Welder Career Path offers the opportunity for an Assembler II to train with the Cable Tray Department and gain hands-on experience with welding. Employee will help with large part construction through assembly and will handle up to 50-pound parts and materials regularly. This role has the potential to advance within our cable tray department to become a welder. Advancement is based on performance, attendance, and ability to learn and progress.
In this function you will:
• Perform simple repetitive bench assembly of parts and components
• Use bolts, screws, hand tools, clips and other fastening devices
• Work under close supervision and may work from models, samples, or simple diagrams
• Handle 50-pound parts to assist with large part construction with or without accommodation
• Remove excess weld, slag, spatter, and rough spots from workpieces using grinders, brushes or scrapers.
• Support all facility Continuous Improvement and LEAN initiatives including, but not limited to:
o Maintain 5-S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) throughout shop floor and office areas.
o Track and sustain all visual management tools such as, but not limited to layered audits, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) boards, and any additional LEAN tools that are deemed necessary to provide direction, goals and status to the shop floor.
o Encourage, support, and actively participate in Kaizen improvements and events throughout the facility, department, and area of responsibility.
• Train on the following:
o Introduction to material flow (set ups)
o Understanding shop orders, part description, BOM, inspection sheets and etc.
o Understanding engineering drawings to identify location and types of welds
o Operate machinery and presses safely & proficiently
o Run multiple presses and changeovers / set-ups for multiple dies
o Accurately read, interpret, & produce parts from blueprints and shop drawings
o Identify different gauges and types of raw material
o Accurately read tape measure, scales, & calipers
o Understand lean manufacturing and continuous improvement concepts used by Eaton.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• A High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required
• Minimum of 1-year prior experience set up and operating machinery & presses
• Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
• No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Reno, NV will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience with manufacturing fabrication.
• Demonstrated welding ability / knowledge - A welding demonstration is preferred
• Set-up and troubleshoot welding equipment.
• Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpiece to ensure conformance.
• Ability to weld aluminum and steel.
• Ability to read blueprints and shop orders. Responsible for safety, quality, production quotas, and all documentation associated with product movement and confirmations.
