Primary FunctionAs the Welding Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting with the development and execution of the overall welding strategy. You will provide guidance and training to plant welding equipment operators and improve production towards meeting plant goals.
Responsibilities Develop welding techniques and procedures and apply welding engineering principles and experience to solving process and equipment problems involving fabrication of metals. Utilize knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys to improve production welding processes. Provide technical guidance to help support production throughput, efficiency, first pass yield, cost reduction, scrap/rework reduction and safety improvements. Establish training guidelines and content; educate supervisors, operators and support personnel in process flow, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting activities. Participate in project management for new equipment purchases by involvement in specifications, quoting, design review process, review of welding documentation, and establishment of strong relationships with vendors. Apply structured problem-solving approach to complex processes and equipment issues with the ability to determine root cause, as well as implement timely corrective action. Prepare technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations. Support new equipment and process installation, startup, debug, optimization, and training. Aid in developing processes and systems for new equipment and welding applications. Develop and maintain reactionary plans for process troubleshooting. Comply with all Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures. Prepare and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications. Participate in company-wide Welding Council activities. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering Minimum 3 years of related work experience or training GMAW, GTAW, resistance welding, and projection resistance welding experience required. Experience with robotic welding and programming required. Prior experience with weld metallographic evaluation and failure analysis methods required. Experience with mash resistance seam welding preferred – will train. Experience with ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including high-strength and/or corrosion-resistant and stainless steel preferred. Possess broad understanding of production equipment and processes. Ability to read and interpret documents such product design drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals, and equipment drawings and schematics. Communicate frequently with internal and external stakeholders regarding various issues. Possesses strong computer skills (MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
