Welding Engineer

Role Summary:

Apply in-depth technical knowledge and hands-on experience in welding processes, welding technologies, and metallurgical issues relating to high-pressure valves for critical-service applications in nuclear, oil and gas, and chemical industries:

Responsibilities Include:

Be a daily welding engineering resource in the plant for manufacturing operations to support production, welder training/coaching, weld repairs, and procedure qualifications.Provide welding and metallurgic support for internal process improvement, rework disposition, code compliance verification, and for external supplier and customer technical reviews. Prepare and manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).Oversee training and qualification of Welding and Welding Operators (WPQ and WOPQ) in accordance with ASME Section III, Section IX, RCCM, PED and other codes and standards.Strive to optimize weld quality and process controls to meet all NDE requirements and reduce the overall welding rework cost across the plant.Continuously improve the excellence in manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic robotic welding processes. Take a leading role to build core welding competency in the plant with state-of-the-art equipment and process.Provide support and training for advanced robotic welding programming, various welding system trouble shooting, system calibration.Develop and implement detailed technical instructions for each welding station to improve quality, reliability and productivity.Identify and address potential welding process issues early for existing orders; provide valid solutions during engineering design, procurement, manufacturing to minimize manufacturing cost and rework.Create methods and mechanisms of continuous improvement in specification, procurement, fabrication, programming, and welding automation.Assist in the selection and maintenance of welding, nondestructive examination, heat treatment, and metallurgical examination and testing equipment needed to support production.

Requirements:

2+ years of hands-on welding manufacturing experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or similar engineering disciplines.Must have actual working experience or solid understanding of various welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, PAW in fabrication, repair and hard facing applications.Must have strong technical knowledge of welding, metallurgy, heat treatment, and material specifications to support manufacturing operations.Must have working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASME Section I, II, III, V, and IXMust have actual experience in preparing and qualifying WPS/PQRMust be a great team worker; be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management.

Preferred Experience/Skills

Working knowledge with additional codes and standards such as API, ASNT, PED, ISO, RCCMWelding certificate from previous jobExperience in robotic programmingCAD design and machining experienceKnowledge in NDECertified Welding Inspector (CWI)Experience with nuclear and NQA-1 requirements
