In the role of Wetland Specialist, we'll count on you toFollow prescribed procedures and detailed instructions, conduct wetland delineation, permitting and mitigation activities, and assist in the preparation of service deliverable documents Lead field investigations, including wetland delineations and habitat assessments Provide on the job training to field technicians while leading field investigationsCollect project-related data, which may include research, vegetation community mapping, conducting surveys for listed species, coordination with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, land use, etc.Assimilate and manage data from multiple sourcesPrepare constraints mappingDefine the level of environmental analysis requiredConduct environmental impact assessmentsPrepare regulatory permit applications and associated documentsAct as the applicant agent and consult/coordinate with relevant agencies on behalf of HDR clientsPerform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methodsAssist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearingsAssist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and complianceWork independently on medium-size projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projectsPerform other related duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient with ESRI softwareProficient with Fieldmap data collection toolMinimum 4 years of experience conducting wetland and water resource delineations in a variety of ecoregionsExperience leading field crews in completing complex wetland and water resource delineationsBotanical identification experience in wetland and upland settings in the southern and/or central U.S. Experience conducting habitat assessments for federally protected species in Texas or adjacent statesPreparation of Section 10/404 permit application documents for submittal to the U.S. Army Corps of EngineersMaster’s degree in Environmental Science of closely related fieldRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Soil Science or closely related fieldExperience with Microsoft Office programsSelf-starter with excellent writing and communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficiency with GIS and GPSAbility and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)Requires ability to travelAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
