As we grow our nationally-renowned team, we are seeking a Construction Inspector with experience in civil construction for river restoration projects based in and around the Denver, CO area with the potential for national travel. This is mostly a field work position with some time spent in local offices coordinating with our engineering and construction management teams beginning in the fall/winter of 2024. Notable projects designed by McLaughlin Whitewater include: the 1996 Olympic Whitewater Competition course on the Upper Ocoee River near Chattanooga, Tenn.; Adventure Sports Center, McHenry, Maryland; and Confluence Park in Denver, Colorado. Typical salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $110,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO The Construction Inspector/Field Engineer works for a project manager and/or project engineer providing construction administration and observation services for the project. The inspector’s main responsibility will be to work with the project manager/project engineer and contractor to ensure that the construction work meets the requirements and intent of the drawings and specifications. Other duties will include: Daily observation of construction activities, including preparation and distribution of daily field reports and photos Attendance at pre-construction meeting and weekly progress meetings with contractor Assist in responding to contractor’s questions, RFIs and issuing clarifications and sketches as needed Assist in reviewing contractor’s submittals, shop drawings and field mock-ups Assist in reviewing contractor’s materials testing results Observations during start-up and tuning of whitewater features Coordination of owner-supplied equipment Ongoing ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing among the project team members, which includes project manager/project engineers, contractors, and client representatives. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in civil design and/or construction management, with at least two (2) years of experience in construction related to open channels/drainages, river and/or creek restoration. Bachelor of Sciences degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred. Observing, reviewing, monitoring or otherwise addressing the appropriateness, performance and timeliness of construction related work performed under the contract or as specified by client. Knowledge and understanding of project documents, including contract documents and technical specifications. Role as owner’s representative or construction superintendent during the construction phase. Development and maintenance of project data and files, including record documents, correspondence, RFIs, change order requests, pay requests, shop drawings, etc. Strong understanding of concrete and its placement, reinforcing and boulder placement and grouting is required. Mechanical-related experience and understanding of hydraulic systems is preferred. AutoCAD C3D drafting skills preferred. Local travel is required, willingness to travel to other job sites nationally is preferred. Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.
