The WIC Nutritionist Senior will administer lead responsibilities for the day-today activities in the WIC clinic. This includes but is not limited to acting as a liaison between the clinic and the program manager, including notifying them about staffing, supply and equipment needs. Handling incident and accident reporting, and resolving on-site customer service issues. Assisting management with the implementation of internal processes and changes. Assessing clients’ income and nutritional needs to determine their eligibility for the WIC program.

Grant Funded Position This position is grant-funded, meaning its financial support comes from allocated funds that may be modified, reduced, or canceled at the discretion of the City of Austin or the grant provider.

This position is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSF) Program. This federal program is intended to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans. To qualify, the individual must have made 120 qualifying payments while employed by a qualifying employer.

Pay Range $25.74 – $30.50

Hours Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; closed 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


1. Administer lead responsibilities for day to day activities for WIC clinic
2. Liaison between clinic and Program Supervisor including notification of clinic staffing, supply and equipment needs, report incidents/accidents, and address and resolve immediate customer complaints.
3. Assist Management with ensuring implementation of internal standardized process changes.
4. Assess income and nutritional needs to determine eligibility for WIC Program according to Federal, State, and local policies and procedures.
5. Deliver group and individual nutrition and breastfeeding education according to agency approved Nutrition Education Plan.
6. Perform participant income and health screenings which includes obtaining ID, residency, and health history measuring height, weight and length of WIC client and plotting on growth grid, calculating income and BMI, performing
finger stick and determining conditions of nutritional need.
7. Prescribe supplemental food package, assess need for breastfeeding pumps and supplies, and issues in accordance with Federal, State and Local policies and procedures.
8. Screen immunization record to obtain immunization status.
9. Refer participants to appropriate community, health and human service resources as needed.
10. Issue and maintain inventory of returned formula, breast pumps and supplies, and educational material according
to policy.
11. Participate in assigned health fairs, community events and projects and makes presentations to groups as assigned.
12. Prepare bulletin boards with nutrition messages according to agency approved Nutrition Education Plan.
