The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination, communication, personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the department’s mission.
These Wildlife Enforcement Cadet positions are located within the Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is currently accepting applications for Enforcement Cadets. These positions are responsible for the patrol of public and private land and water, including federal waters, using a variety of specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources, provides public safety services on the water ways of the state. Incumbents are subject to being on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
These positions are being announced as Classified positions and may be filled either as Job Appointments or Probationary Appointments and are open to all qualified applicants. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that it may be converted to a Probational Appointment, should funding become available. Current, permanent status, classified employees will be required to accept a Probational appointment, if selected.

These positions have a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $25.96/hour / $2076.80/bi-weekly base pay.
These positions participate in a Career Progression Group up to Wildlife Enforcement Corporal.
Incumbents must also be able to meet physical requirements that include swimming, running, push-ups, sit-ups, and water survival training.

Wildlife Enforcement Cadets are required to live within the state of Louisiana and are encouraged to live within their assigned Parish. However, Cadets may live 40 statute miles or less from their parish of assignment. Applicants should consider this residency policy when selecting parishes on their application.

PSE (2100):
Applicants are required to have an active score of 77 or above for the Protective Services Exam (PSE)series 2100 by theclosing date of this posting. + Applicants who are using law enforcement experience to qualify for this position must submit a copy of their P.O.S.T. Certificate. Examples of experience accepted as law enforcement are P.O.S.T. Certified police officers commissioned with the power of arrest, military police, and deputy sheriffs. Examples of experience not accepted as law enforcement are correctional officers and private security guards.
+ Applicants who are using vocational or technical education to qualify for this position must submit a copy of their Associates degree or Certificate of Completion.
+ Applicants who are using military experience to qualify for this position must submit a copy of their DD-214. If you are currently enlisted in the Military and do not have a DD-214, you must submit a letter from your commanding officer stating you will be available for the entire hiring process and the start of the academy, and lists your dates of active military service.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest; OR
An associate’s degree from a technical college or completion of a two-year program at a vocational or technical school; OR
Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply).
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties. Incumbents must also be able to meet physical requirements that include swimming, running, push-ups, sit-ups, and water survival training.

Wildlife Enforcement Cadets are required to attend the Enforcement Cadet Training Academy. The academy is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is 14 weeks in duration. Cadets are required to live at the training facility (may be allowed to leave Friday p.m. and return on Sunday p.m.).
