Wind Tunnel Mechanic - TEMP SBU

Primary Purpose of Position:

 

Responsible for instrumentation and build of prototype and mule vehicles and systems to support the development of Aerodynamic, Cooling, Climate Control, and Underhood/Underbody systems through testing in the ETO Facilities, over the road, and in the lab and to support the management staff with the disposition of work orders, when specifically required.

 

Major Duties of Position:

Receive test articles and parts for later dispensation Install thermal instrumentation on test articles Validate thermal instrumentation on test articles Fabrication of prototype parts for development testing Installation of test articles in Hot & Cold Test Facilities Perform test spec changes in test cells/garage Setup of laboratory test stands

Wind Tunnel Mechanic (in addition to above duties):

Install aerodynamic instrumentation on test articles/components Validate aerodynamic instrumentation on test articles Install test articles in wind tunnels Perform test spec changes in wind tunnel

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Familiarity with the installation of test articles in the test facilities for the express purpose of aero or thermal testing Familiarity with the operation of lab test equipment for the express purpose of aero/thermal testing of vehicles & components and development of their systems Knowledgeable in safe electrical wiring practices and troubleshooting practices Skilled in machining and fabrication of prototype parts Basic computer skills required for some duties

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required Minimum TWO (2) years of auto services experience required Possess basic computer skills: MS Office Valid driver’s license with no physical restrictions 

Preferred Requirements:

S.E. or State certified preferred Minimum THREE (3) years auto dealership service experience Strong background in fabrication Knowledge in safe electrical wiring practices and circuit troubleshooting practices. Able to work in a team environment Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Familiar with thermocouples and pressure transducers Familiar with the operation of lab test equipment for the express purpose of thermodynamic testing of vehicles, modules, and components for development of their associated systems Skilled in machining and fabrication of prototype parts Familiar with vehicle HVAC and cooling systems EOE / Disability / Veteran
