Wine Director
Cherokee Town & Country Club in Atlanta, GA is actively seeking a Full-Time Wine Director to Join and support our wonderful wine team. This position is vital for ensuring that our members and guests have an exceptional experience and feel cared for in every manner, right down to the wine selection. Job Summary: The Wine Director at Cherokee Town & Country Club has a broad focus that incorporates our restaurants, banquets, pool, and wine list. The Sommelier is responsible for updating wine lists, collaborating with the chefs to pair wines with food, advising guests on wine selections, ensuring proper wine service, managing the wine cellar, wine pricing, and conducting wine tastings. In this role, it is imperative to stay informed and up to date on wine varieties, prices, and regional production. Cherokee Town and Country Club has one of the most robust wine programs in the county. In addition to a world class selection at unparalleled prices, the wine director purchases wine with the express intent of aging the wines in-house for future member enjoyment. The wine director will continue the Cherokee tradition of not only managing the cellar's current contents but also planning purchases to maintain consistency and quality over the next 20 years. The ideal director candidate should have deep connections to wine brokers, vineyards, and wholesale sellers, enabling us to access rare and exceptional wines to elevate our program. Essential Functions of the job: + Lead wine team with the goal of having the largest and best wine selection in all Country Clubs and within the Southeast. Focus on aging wines and highlighting the wine program as an amenity to the members. + Maintain the wine inventory to suit all needs of the club. Purchasing wines to cover all banquets, casual dining, fine dining, Main Bar and Pool Bar. + Work closely with the purchasing director to ensure proper inventory. Schedule regular meetings with local wine representatives to stay on top of all the current wines in the market. + Be present and accessible during evening hours when the Town Club is at its busiest. Members like to see the sommelier and talk about their upcoming events and specific needs they may have. + Manage the catering wine list and pricing as well as providing trainings for the catering team as changes to the list are made. + Train the wine team as well as the hourly and salaried associates. The director will be proactive and set up as much training as everyone's schedule allows. The director will work with the culinary team to help inspire dishes that are wine-friendly. + Supervise monthly inventory with outlet managers, supervisors and assistant sommelier. + Manage the wine cost. The director will be responsible for maintaining the Club's budgeted wine cost in all outlets. This will include training on proper pour sizes as well as participating in monthly inventory. + Plan and execute engaging wine focused events for membership. Skills and aptitude required: + Skilled in crafting sophisticated and complementary food and wine parings. + Hospitable, friendly, and courteous demeanor. + Excellent and professional communication skills. + Exceptional organizational skills. + Have an interested in mentoring and developing a team of sommeliers. Education and experience required: + Certified Somm required, Advanced Somm preferred. + Previous experience as a Sommelier or Wine Director. + 7+ years in hospitality experience specifically focused on wine related roles.
