Compensation and Benefits: 

Compensation: Starting pay rate of $ 18.30, actual wage adjusted based on experienceBenefits: Full-time seasonal position eligible for a season pass for employee/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available. 

Job Summary:

Killington/Pico Resort Rescue I staff monitor mountain areas for injured, reckless, and lost skiers, and skiing hazards. Responsible for providing first aid and other necessary assistance to skiers and enforcing company skiing safety regulations, and performing various trail maintenance tasks. The focus of the job is on more routine patrol, rescue, and first aid assignments.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Perform a variety of ski rescue, patrol, and trail maintenance duties, usually involving assignment to more routine rescue tasksPerform more advanced/complex tasks under direction of a senior staff memberImprove basic first aid skills, learn more advanced first aid skills, and learn specialized ski rescue and trail maintenance skills through formal and informal on-the-job trainingParticipate in appropriate training workshops/clinics and study of instructional materialPatrol assigned mountain areas regularly to ensure that all trails are properly markedIdentify injured, lost, out-of-control, and reckless skiersIdentify existing or potential skiing hazardsMonitor and report on weather/skiing conditions, skiing traffic, and the likeAdminister first aid to injured skiers: assess condition of and stabilize patient, render appropriate treatment (such as splinting), and transport to base in a tobogganAssist lost or out-of-control skiers return to a manageable trail or liftTransport skiers who are frightened or have lost or damaged equipment or minor injuries to base by snowmobile. Answer questions, give directions, etc.Stop reckless skiers and enforce company skiing safety regulations and take appropriate disciplinary actionPerform a variety of trail maintenance tasks: check trails for hazards, missing signs, etc., put up signs and mark hazards, cut brush, pack down and shovel snow, put up fences, close trails when necessary, etc.Perform trail closing procedures, patrolling all heavily traveled trails and all other trails if possibleAssist in lift evacuationSearch for missing persons and equipmentPatrol organized racing activities or other special skiing eventsComplete accident reports, take photographs, and assist in preparation of other documentation of accidentsAssist in maintaining tools and equipment used in rescue and trail maintenance work. Assist in maintaining base first aid facilitiesStand by awaiting emergency callsProvide superior service to our customers (internal and external) at all times. Follow the Resort Etiquette Guidelines while interacting with the guests and respond to all guests in a courteous, efficient mannerPerform other tasks as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

Basic education (high school)Excellent skiing or snowboarding skillsAdvanced first aid and CPR training (American Red Cross cards)Current OEC CertificationMust be able to lift at least 50 pounds

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Good technical first aid skills; some relevant first aid experience desirableGood basic reading and writing skillsAbility to deal with customers in a courteous, efficient, confident, and authoritative mannerExperience using a variety of hand and power tools used in trail maintenance (hand saws, chain saws, and the like)Ability to handle rescue toboggans and perform all other job duties
