Job Summary
Responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise wireless communication systems. Influence the architecture, protocol design, testing, and troubleshooting of complex wireless networks to ensure high performance, security, and reliability. Work collaboratively across teams to deliver stable, scalable solutions aligned with business needs and customer expectations.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Develop, plan, and implement RF wireless networks from concept to deployment, working closely with vendors, network engineers, and internal stakeholders, to design optimal Wi-Fi solutions.
Account for network capacity and scalability to ensure the wireless infrastructure can support increased growth, demand, and data traffic. Assess network performance regularly, implementing necessary adjustments to enhance RF signal quality, throughput, and coverage.
Research and recommend wireless infrastructure equipment, lead installation and configuration of hardware and software, following best practices. Maintain detailed documentation of wireless infrastructure, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational guidelines, and configuration records.
Monitor data network system performance. Performs data network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose performance issues. Identify and resolve wireless connectivity issues to restore normal operation.
Provide training and mentorship to peers on wireless technologies, promoting a culture of continuous learning.
Possess a thorough understanding of authentication methods, including Entra ID, to secure network access and ensure compliance.
Ensure clear and effective communication with team members, cross-functional teams, and leadership for alignment on network initiatives.
Installs and configures hardware. Performs upgrades to hardware and software components. Orders equipment, prepares installation specifications, and monitors progress of installation for core and branch network infrastructure.
Establishes network users, user environments, and security for networks being installed. Troubleshoots branch cabling and equipment issues. Provides users with technical network support.
Nature and Scope
Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.
May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Possess a thorough understanding of authentication methods, including Entra ID, to secure network access and ensure compliance.
Proficiency in network infrastructure services, user and site-to-site VPNs, and cloud networking.
Proficiency in wireless network security principles, practices, and technologies, with hands-on experience in implementing and managing wireless security solutions. highly recommended/preferred.
Experience in Extreme Networks wireless (formerly Aerohive) and Ekahau Wi-Fi design and analysis is highly recommended/preferred.
Highly organized and attentive to detail, with the ability to work on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously (multi-task). Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision on a highly productive team.
Must possess standard network engineering skills, including experience with network configuration, routing, switching, and network security fundamentals, to support both wireless and broader network infrastructure.
