Department Profile:

The Investing with Impact team within the Global Investment Office, is responsible for developing and delivering holistic wealth solutions for our individual and institutional clients that seek to align their portfolios with their values. These solutions include a comprehensive set of investment strategies, portfolio solutions, impact reporting, manager selection tools and thought leadership across multiple sustainability themes. Further, we provide high quality and timely training and education for Financial Advisors and clients, including a formal Advisor designation as well as an annual calendar of regular events, publications, and periodic thematic reports.

Job Summary:

The Impact Associate will support the Investing with Impact team’s engagement with institutional clients and help provide highly customized impact investment solutions, with a particular focus on private market impact products and impact-first investment opportunities. The Impact Associate will support on impact product sourcing and evaluation across venture capital, private equity/credit, and real assets, as well as respond to ad hoc client questions and complete longer-term projects. Further, the Impact Associate will support the creation and maintenance of thought-leadership and materials for institutional investors including drafting thematic whitepapers and written reports, as well as critical functions including coordinating meetings and notetaking on conference calls.

Responsibilities:

- Support the team to deliver to institutional clients (Family Offices and Foundations) the full depth of Investing with Impact capabilities.

- Understand, respond to, and proactively address institutional client needs and support on bespoke impact-related institutional client requests.

- Evaluate private market impact and impact-first fund opportunities—which are investments that prioritize positive social and/or environmental impact in the investment process—across venture capital, private equity/credit and real assets.

- Conduct deep-dive research on a specific impact investment theme (e.g., affordable housing or climate justice) and support with other impact investing market research and data analysis.

- Develop an understanding of Morgan Stanley’s proprietary impact analytics and work with Financial Advisors to integrate these analytics into client deliverables.

- Engage with partners across the Firm including Technology, Marketing, Legal, Risk and Compliance.

- Collaborate closely with other areas of the Firm including the Global Sustainability Office and Institute for Sustainable Investing.

- 1-5 years of work experience in private markets, Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG)/impact investing, consulting, development finance, investment due diligence and/or other relevant fields.

- Demonstrated interest in ESG/impact investing and a passion leveraging private capital to scale solutions to address environmental and social issues.

- Ability to operate independently and manage multiple deadlines, including short-term and long-term projects, with strong organizational and time management skills

- Familiarity with private market investing, impact measurement and management, impact-first investing, catalytic capital and/or blended finance strongly desired.

- Understanding of ESG data providers and impact reporting frameworks, as well as impact investing approaches (restriction screening, ESG integration, thematic solutions) and investment products across asset classes (public and private).

- Experience with asset allocation, investment manager selection and portfolio risk management preferred.

- Strong command of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel) and experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research and analysis required.

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Series 7 and 63 required within first 90 days

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between$85,000and$115,000peryearat the commencement of employment.However, base pay if hired will be determined on anindividualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionarybonuses, othershort and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
