Job Summary
The Wood Technologist is responsible for the monitoring of treating plant operational compliance to UFP policies and procedures, assists treating plants in achieving higher efficiencies and cost reductions, and researches and develops new products and technologies.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Functions as an internal technical consultant to assigned treating plants.
Monitors assigned treating plant operations to ensure compliance with UFP policies, procedures, environmental regulations and safety practices
Analyzes treating plant operating procedures, equipment and machinery functions to reduce processing time and costs and improve product quality.
Identifies and researches opportunities for productivity and safety improvements.
Researches various technical issues and problems and develops operational procedures.
Trains plant personnel in proper treating plant procedures.
Monitors plant performance processing to ensure the finished product meets specifications.
Develops and modifies technical issues and problems and develops operational procedures.
Develops and maintains various databases as required.
Coordinates and manages treating plant improvement projects as required.
Participates in research and development activities to enhance product quality, operational procedures, and process improvement.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor's degree in chemistry environmental science forestry or other related fields of study.
Working knowledge of wood structure, chemistry, physics, etc. helpful but can be taught.
Programming experience in Python or related Ignition based language is beneficial.
Ability to learn software programming.
Ability to use and troubleshoot HPLC and other analysis and plant equipment.
Compensation & Benefit Information:
$45,000 - 55,000 annually dependent on experience*
*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living
