Woodland Manager

We are seeking applicants for a Woodland Manager in our International Falls, MN Paper Mill.
The International Falls facility is a White Paper Mill owned by Packaging Corporation of America.


Primary Duty

Manage the procurement and delivery of roundwood and chips to the International Falls mill ( 700,000 cords annually).  Provide guidance and oversight to International Falls Fiber Procurement Superintendents.  Manage fiber flows and make fiber supply/cost decisions.  Develop positive relationships with regulatory and policy making agencies, major forest landowners and public forest managers.  Influence Federal, State and County policies on forest management and timber harvest.  Promote a positive image for forest management amongst community and forest stakeholders.

 

Representative Duties and Responsibilities

Clearly and consistently communicate any safety, integrity and stewardship expectations to employees.  Demonstrate commitment to safety, integrity and stewardship values.Provide opportunities and encouragement for employee development. Define expectations and hold fiber procurement staff and scale employees accountable for positive performance and identify opportunities for improvement.  Responsible for purchase of wood fiber (700,000 cords annually) for pulp production and supplemental biomass for energy generation.  Manage inventories of roundwood, chip and biomass.  Coordinate fiber supply changes with mill operations and keep key operating personnel informed about price and supply.Ensure success of SFI, FSC, and PEFC procurement and chain of custody certification programs.  Manage relationships and negotiations between PCA and landowners participating in long term fiber agreements. Primary contact and leader of communication with other forest industry, trade associations and public and private land management agencies.Develop "what-if" strategic scenarios to weigh risks, assess the market, and optimize options.Oversee harvest operations on controlled stumpage timber sales and monitors compliance to best management practices.Responsible for SOX compliance with open market, purchased chip, and controlled wood fiber purchase programs.  Uses wood procurement system to query delivery and cost information on weekly basis.Responsible for monitoring the quality of roundwood and chips procured.Manages the forecasting of International Falls’ fiber demand against pulp production schedules, the resulting inventory balances, and the monthly fiber cost estimates.

 

Minimum Qualifications

B.S./B.A. in forestry, procurement, or related field desired. 

M.S. in forestry or related field and/or M.B.A. preferred. 

Eight to ten years’ experience in forest management and/or procurement required. 

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
