Woodlands/Woodyard Manager

Our Grenada location in Mississippi, United States is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Woodlands/Woodyard Manager. This job is permanent, full-time.

Primary Purpose

This position oversees, monitors, and controls the Wood Procurement and Woodyard daily operations. Leads development of strategic planning for the Woodlands Operations and its integrated value to Resolute Grenada newsprint mill operations. Holds responsibility for Woodlands’ day-to-day operations and organizational issues. Develops wood procurement sourcing plans, which support fiber management synergies and low-cost sourcing alternatives to meet goals identified by mill and company management. Manages the day-to-day longwood, chip and boiler fuel receiving and processing activities in the Woodyard area to achieve mill goals of safety, environmental, productivity, and costs. Directly supervise nine hourly employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

Highly committed to safety leadership in dealing with employees, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring compliance with all mill safety policies. Lead the environmental efforts in the department to insure we operate within all environmental guidelines and regulations. Manage daily operations of the Woodyard. Maintain the reliability of equipment to reduce breakdowns and insure environmentally sound operations. Develop low-cost wood sourcing alternatives and fiber management synergies. Meeting financial budgeted goals for the departments. Communicate with Suppliers as needed to ensure deliveries meet mill requirements of volume, quality, and cost. Monitor competitor behavior and general market conditions related to wood supply and demand. Direct Grenada Woodlands support for the Company’s Forest Certification activities. Communicate with other department managers, production manager and site manager to ensure our efforts are aligned with all other mill departments to meet quality and production needs. Explore technology to help make the equipment more efficient and environmentally sound.  Participate in mill, corporate or external activities required to forward the mill’s interests. Work to ensure adequate information tracking and reporting systems.

Knowledge and Experience 

Experience in wood procurement and forest management. Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or related discipline or ten years’ experience in related activities Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and maintenance. Working knowledge of wood handling and processing operations.  Able to express thoughts clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally. Strong analytical and planning abilities. Well-developed leadership skills. Working knowledge of personal computer applications. Good interpersonal skills. Solid working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting the forest industry. Working knowledge of Forest Certification Standards.
