Duties Description The Workers' Compensation Examiner would be responsible for the following:• Review and process health care provider applications for authorization to treat injured workers and to perform independent medical examinations• Notify health care providers that the renewal of authorization to perform services in the New York State workers' compensation system is due, as directed by the Associate Workers' Compensation Examiner• Send notifications to health care providers regarding changes in licensing or board certification status and update provider records as required• Perform data cleanup for monthly and weekly reports• Process health care provider resignations• Review and process renewal applications for x-ray laboratories, x-ray bureaus, and medical bureaus • Review and process complaints against health care providers, including initial research as well as correspondence and document management•Monitor the unit's shared mailbox and respond to inquiries from external parties
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.ORCandidates must have one year permanent or 55 b/c service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.ORIndividuals certified eligible for the 55b/c program under the Governor’s Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. To be considered, you must meet the minimum qualifications and provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response.Candidates must have:Either 1. Three years of full-time experience in a position where your primary responsibilities included extensive in-person or telephone customer service experience with the general public resolving customer's issues and/or problems; explaining programs/services, policies, or procedures; reconciling accounts; or experience examining, investigating, processing, or adjusting insurance claims; or responding to technical questions from policyholders or claimants;Or 2. An associate’s degree and two years of full-time experience described in #1;Or 3. A bachelor’s degree and one year of full-time experience described in #1.
