Workers Compensation Specialist

Responsible for proactively handling Worker’s Compensation cases to protect the interest of the injured employee and achieve the best possible outcome for each claim. Works closely with various departments, injured employees, medical providers, and counsel.

Primary Responsibilities

Accurately process, finalize and control an inventory of claims in a timely mannerHandle private and proprietary information while maintaining strict confidentiality and protecting information from unauthorized disclosureReview, investigate, analyze, and adjust Workers’ Compensation claims in accordance with current specific state laws and regulations as well as all pre-established company policies and procedures, including but not limited to:Initiate “Three Point Contact” with OD Service Center, the injured worker and medical provider within pre-established time limitsEstablish claims reserves and authorize payments within reserving authority limitsAuthorize medical treatment within pre-established authority levelReview and process bills for payment in accordance with the established fee schedule and contractual agreementsCoordinate timely return-to-work efforts with the injured employee, medical provider, OD Service Center, and the OD Worker’s Compensation RepresentativeCoordinate resolution of claims by preparing documentation and forms specific to the stateCoordinate with defense counsel on litigated claims, providing records and reports as necessaryReview progress of claims routinely with the Workers Compensation Supervisor or Manager, providing a well-documented action planKeep the Workers Compensation Supervisor and Manager apprised of all claims that require special attention or have extenuating circumstancesConsult with and monitor service providers, such as legal counsel, medical and vocational professionalsRefer appropriate claims for subrogation recoveryReport “qualified claims” to the Workers Compensation Excess Insurance Company as well as all catastrophic claims based on the established financial criteria, including any claims that meet the established financial criteria thresholdPerform various routine clerical duties, utilizing standard office equipment to include maintaining calendars, filing, entering information into databases and spreadsheets, emailing, scanning, making photocopies, faxing documents, phone communication, typing and word processingMaintain knowledge of Mandatory Medicare Reporting, monitor reporting, and correct any errors

Job Qualifications

Education:

High School diploma or equivalentCurrent Certification/licensed as a “Claims Adjuster” for the applicable state

Experience:

4 years of experience administering Workers Compensation claimsUnderstanding of the claim’s administration, case management and cost containment solutionsProficiency with Microsoft OfficeExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong teamwork and interpersonal skillsAlways maintain a professional business manner when representing OD
