Summary
Acts as a consultant, educator, and researcher in the areas of enterostomal therapy and wound care management. Establishes objectives, goals, and priorities for selected patients/families care, nursing staff education, and organizational objectives within the framework of the specialized areas of practice. Consults, assesses patients, responds to, and offers recommendations for continued treatment.
Job DutiesAssesses, plans, and implements patient/family care and evaluates interventions and revises care plans. Develops and implements teaching tools and programs for patients/families based on their specific needs. Develops, maintains, and distributes a priority list of active protocols to all participating physicians. Formulates hospital policies and procedures relevant to enterostomal therapy and wound care. Acts as a patient advocate through all phases of enterostomal/wound care services. Identifies areas for clinical studies and promotes or conducts investigations. Identifies discharge needs and refers patients/families to appropriate agencies. Receives and reviews newly activated protocols, amendments, notices, suspensions, and terminations from the principal Investigator. Serves as a resource for the nursing staff in enterostomal and wound care nursing.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree Nursing 3 years Experience in Enterostomal Therapy. 3 years Experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing. Demonstrates competency to provide care to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Knowledge of computer skills. Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of hospital management, staff, physicians, patients, families and the general public. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
