Yard Driver - Enterprise Distribution Center

Job Summary

Responsible for moving and staging trailers on the Distribution Center yard.  Moves trailers occasionally to and from local offsite lots or trailers left on public streets. 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Safely moves trailers to and from shipping and receiving doors.  Safely moves trailers to and from designated parking areas on the yard.

Drives tractor-trailer within yard or within short distances outside of yard, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering on the road and on company premises.

Upholds and follows yard safety and compliance regulations.  Monitors activity in the yard and at the gate into the yard.

Performs all required safety checks (i.e. pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.  Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action.  Reports all safety issues and/or required repairs.

Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.  Immediately reports any and all safety hazards.

Ensures that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.

Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean.

May be required to perform other warehouse duties as needed.

Nature and Scope

Refers complex, unusual problems to supervisor.

Under general supervision, exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Work typically involves regular review of output by a senior coworker or supervisor.

Work Environment

Typically located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness, such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes.

Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, and maneuvering material or equipment that may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

HS Diploma or GED strongly preferred. Specialized skills training/certification may be required. Generally 2-5 years of experience in area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience driving commercial vehicles.  Experience with moving trailers.

Must have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the state in which the candidate resides with all the relevant endorsements required for type of equipment being operated.

Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for past 3 years.

Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.

Ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others.

Pay Range

$23.50-$32.80 Hourly
