The Youth Care Worker (YCW) is responsible for the oversight and safety of children or adolescents in a variety of secure setting care settings. The Youth Care Worker will interact with the youth in a positive manner while assisting them with daily activities and implementing treatment plans.
The Youth Care Worker will display a professional and caring attitude and will encourage positive behaviors through effective communication, decision-making, and problem-solving. The Youth Care Worker will respond to emergencies and assist in the redirection of youth when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees, instructs, and guides youth in their daily routines including personal hygiene, indoor and outdoor activities, meals, programming, and school Positively interacts with youth to address their concerns and problems while teaching them to develop good decision making and problem solving skills Documents daily observations and reports changes in youth’s behavior Participates in initiatives to support the facility’s goals and objectives Maintains records and reports youth’s progress with treatment plans, goals, and education per facility policy and protocol Escorts youth throughout the facility to classes, clinic appointments, and other activities Helps to establish and maintain a calm, safe and productive environment Locates youth who are not within their assigned area and escorts them to where they are assigned Conducts safety checks of the facility, youth’s rooms and possessions, and secures/reports any hazards to appropriate authority Assists youth with housekeeping duties such as laundry and cleaning of their individual and common areas Demonstrates a high level of critical thinking and participates in multidisciplinary treatment meetings when appropriate Adheres to facility and Amergis policies at all timesMinimum Requirements:
Associate’s Degree in social sciences, counseling, behavioral sciences, human services, criminal justice, education, or child development preferred A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the care, custody, or personal guidance of youth Bilingual or multilingual may be preferred in some settings Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable Current CPR if applicable TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) Must meet all federal, state and local requirements Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required Computer proficiency required Must be at least 18 years of age Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits: Competitive pay & weekly paychecks Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) savings plan Awards and recognition programs *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.
