Youth Transportation Driver - Mary Ryan

Job Summary: 

The Van Driver plays a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable, and timely transportation of youth to and from Club sites, schools, and authorized activities. This position is responsible for the safety and well-being of all passengers, maintaining accurate transportation logs, and operating vehicles in compliance with organizational policies and state/federal regulations. The Van Driver also supports program operations by assisting with arrival and departure transitions, monitoring vehicle conditions, and upholding safety standards at all times. This is a grant-funded position, and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Mission Impact

Safely transport youth between homes, schools, Club sites, and special events.Maintain accurate daily logs of routes, mileage, passenger counts, and pick-up/drop-off times.Support youth participation in Club programs by providing consistent, dependable transportation.Foster a positive Club experience by creating a safe and welcoming environment during transit.

People Power

Build positive, respectful relationships with youth, families, and staff.Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, Club staff, and schools regarding schedules and transportation needs.Assist staff with arrival and dismissal procedures, ensuring smooth transitions for youth.Serve as a role model for youth by demonstrating professionalism, patience, and respect.

Safety

Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness.Enforce passenger safety rules, including proper use of seat belts and orderly behavior.Follow all organizational safety protocols, traffic regulations, and emergency procedures.

Financial Sustainability

Track mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance needs for reporting and cost management.Assist in scheduling routine maintenance and repairs to extend vehicle life and reduce expenses, including annual DCF251 inspection.Report damages or repair needs promptly to minimize costs and downtime.

Compliance

Maintain valid driver’s license and required endorsements.Follow all state and federal transportation regulations, including passenger safety laws and DCF251 requirements.Ensure compliance with organizational transportation and safety policies.Report accidents, incidents, or vehicle concerns promptly to supervisors.Complete required incident and transportation-related reports in a timely manner.

Minimum Education Requirements: 

High School Diploma or equivalentValid Wisconsin Driver’s License with good driving record
