The Zero Waste Team manages waste sorting for major Colorado State University events. The team is led by a student manager.

Position Summary
Colorado State University is seeking a motivated individual to coordinate waste sorting stations at events on campus. Minimizing waste at events is one way CSU demonstrates sustainability and can be a powerful tool in engaging and educating our students, staff, faculty, and visitors on how to divert materials from the landfill by composting and recycling as much as possible to reduce waste.
This position is in-person only and applicants must be willing to attend events regularly throughout the academic year, including events on evenings and weekends. Zero Waste Coordinators will be notified in advance when an event has been confirmed and the student manager will schedule shifts according to the availability of individual coordinators. Schedules will be flexible to accommodate classes and other obligations. Please note that this position is on-demand only based on events scheduled and there are no set hours each week.
Position Minimum Qualifications
+ Available to work zero waste events on campus, which includes evening and weekend events
+ Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to engage students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors with a positive attitude.
+ Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
+ Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity, and sustainability.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience managing waste sorting stations.
+ Experience with statistics and data management.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Staffing waste sorting stations at a variety of on-campus events.
+ Guiding and educating event participants on properly sorting compostable materials, recycling, and waste.
+ Minimizing contaminants in the compost and recycling stream and ensuring bins are closed/secured until they are picked up by the Integrated Solid Waste Team.
+ Reviewing serving ware and other materials at events to determine which can be composted and recycled and which items are waste.
+ Encouraging event organizers to select as many reusable, compostable, and recyclable materials as possible to reduce waste.
+ Helping Zero Waste Team student manager track volumes at each event.
+ Providing feedback to the Zero Waste Team and Integrated Solid Waste Team on how to improve waste sorting practices at events.
+ Serving as sustainability ambassador and promote zero waste principles on campus by engaging students, staff, faculty, and visitors at campus events and programs.
